Brian Maunders Cert RASC ATD

Illustrator and artist Brian Maunders Cert RASC.ATD Brian was born in Luton in 1942 and spent his early years in a small Bedfordshire village; the surrounding countryside making a lasting impression on him.
At 15 he entered Luton School of Art which led on to four years at the Central School of Art and Design, majoring in illustration which involved him in various crafts such as book-binding and typesetting. In 1964, painting began to dominate his work, and after teaching for a year, he entered the Royal Academy Schools where he began to shape his art centred on the figure and landscape, and was awarded the Sir Edwin Landseer prize for painting and various awards for printmaking.
After gaining an art diploma (ATD), Brian taught for 26 years at St. Albans School of Art, which became a faculty of the University of Hertfordshire. “Throughout all this time drawing and painting has been a constant in my life, holding numerous exhibitions, selling works in this country and abroad”. Commissions for paintings in churches has led Brian to succeed in significant projects in Bedfordshire and Leicestershire. “Tracey’s imaginative book gave me an opportunity to apply my painting ideas in a different direction. Strong subject matter is important to me and I try to draw the viewer into a readable situation which can be returned to for further discovery.
